Quick Startup Checklist

This quick checklist is for experienced PC² users or those who typically do not use manuals initially to install and use software.

Version 8

The Quick Startup for version 8 is described in the PC² Version 8.5 Contest Administrator’s Installation and Configuration Guide in the section entitled "PC²Startup Checklist for Geniuses".

Version 9

For those who have used version 8 There are three significant changes (additions) in version 9 on Primary server startup.

  1. Login to the server with a login and password
  2. Enter a contest password
  3. Upon login a Server GUI appears, a server no longer runs on just command line.

Quick start Checklist

This a list of steps for starting the Primary server.

  1. Install Java version 1.5 or greater
  2. Install PC² by unzipping the PC² Distribution to the PC² installation directory;
  3. Add the Java bin directory and the PC² bin directory (installation directory/bin) to the PATH;
  4. Edit the pc2v9.ini file to point servers and clients to the server IP:port and to specify the appropriate site server name; put the modified .ini file on every server and client machine;
  5. Start a PC² server using the command "pc2server".
    • Login using the name "site1" and password "site1"
    • Enter a contest password, for example use the password "contest" (this is the contest security password)
  6. Start a PC² Administrator module using the command "pc2admin" and login using the name "administrator1" and password "administrator1".
  7. Configure at least the following contest items via the Administrator module
    • Accounts (generate the necessary accounts);
    • Problems (create one or more contest problems, specifying the problem input data file if there is one);
    • Languages (create one or more contest languages, specifying the language name, compile command line, executable filename, and program execution command line).
  8. Press the "Start" button on the Administrator module Time Tab
  9. Start a PC² client on each Team (using pc2team) and Judge (using pc2judge) machine and log in using the Admin created accounts and passwords.
  10. Start a PC² client (using pc2board) on the Scoreboard machine and log in using the "board1" Scoreboard account/password; arrange for the scoreboard-generated HTML files to be accessible to user’s browsers.

Quick start for Second Site

On Site 1 (first site/server)

  1. On the Sites Tab
    • use the Add Site button to add other sites
    • Update the IP and Port for the other sites
    • Save the site information by clicking the Update Site button

On the Second site

  1. Install Java version 1.5 or greater
  2. Install PC² by unzipping the PC² Distribution to the PC² installation directory;
  3. Add the Java bin directory and the PC² bin directory (installation directory/bin) to the PATH;
  4. Edit the pc2v9.ini file
  5. Start the second site server using the command "pc2server".
    • Login using the name "site2" and password "site2", ("site3" password "site3", etc.)
  6. Create Accounts for site 2 using Generate Accounts on the Primary server
  7. Start a PC² client on each Team (using pc2team) and Judge (using pc2judge) machine and log in using the Admin created accounts and passwords.
